Kanayo, Bob Manuel,  Nick Rhys Screenplay: Tunde Babalola Director: Kunle Afolayan October 1 is one movie that was highly anticipated by myself and am sure a whole lot of people. I actually thought the movie was going to be basically about how Nigeria gained her Independence, but the writer proved me wrong. Ouch! I cannot wait to get into the review part *rubbing palms* it’s going to be a joy ride, for the car is set in motion. The movie is going to be thorn into parts for you to know it’s a great, good or… Bad movie. Worth the hype or not! Review: A girl runs through a dark forest scared of something unknown… well I guess that was how … wrote the teaser of October 1, what can I say, but I loved it! I loved the suspense right from the very start of the movie. So at the very start of the movie, a red moon in a dark night, screams are hea...

The Review: Anniversary Review

Movie Title: Anniversary (2016)

Cast: Ebube Nwagbo, Gideon Okeke, Zynnell Zuh, Juliet Ibrahim

Director: Afe Olumowe

Synopsis: A couple, Harry and Sarah, have been happily married for five years, with a five year old son. On their sixth wedding anniversary, Harry wants something more exciting, he wants to explore sex differently. Sarah won’t hear of it, as she believes they are a happy couple and need nothing else. Then when Harry meets Samira a workaholic but a younger and more sexually adventurous woman, things take a different turn for everyone involved in the picture.

The movie “Anniversary” is a romantic comedy, which is also a Nigeria-Ghana collaboration, who knows we might find out which Jollof is better, Ghanian or Nigerian Jollof *lol* the movie is on our Chopping board today. A good movie or not?? Keep reading to find out *No spoilers, promise*

The Review:
If you are thinking of going to see a movie at the cinema during the week, you should go see this movie “ANNIVERSARY”, I cannot say that you would love every bit of it, because, not everyone likes meat or fish, but you would definitely enjoy it. Perhaps you could learn a few tricks as to when your man is cheating *for the ladies* or how to be a better player at the game *for the guys* but please do not get caught… OYO for you!

On an observatory note: I really do not know if Gideon Okeke has some hidden talents as the role he enacted *I said nothing oh* But the Harry guy is suave with the lies Mehn…
One thing I liked with the characters in the film is that they were created and made believable, the story was sold out to viewers watching. Now, back to the TITLE, I didn’t buy that, the title and storyline… nah, yes there was an anniversary but in the actual sense the storyline wasn’t about the anniversary. Maybe the filmmakers wanted something based on the title “anniversary”, but a different title would suit better.

Bad continuity, poor transition. Sarah and Samira’s meeting wasn’t very clear. We saw Sarah in a meeting with her friend who’s character wasn’t very well stated and the next time we saw Sarah, she was making a phone call to Samira, and that was how we found out she met her on the plane, when did Sarah travel? And how did she coincidentally meet Samira…  Plus we almost never saw the son of Harry and Sarah, at least at some point Sarah should care for her child… that was a huge glitch. Filmmakers or Producers, if you are going to cut out scenes from a script, please make sure it doesn’t affect the story or screenwriters do not make the audience think too much or interpret the film in their own way… I don’t know where the fault came from, so *just saying* And please if you are going to portray a high-class character, details matter and cannot be overlooked, for a female sophisticated character, behind her feet cannot be black, please, the world is watching.

Gideon Okeke a man with so much guts *grin* he is fast becoming a heart-throb in the film industry no doubt, he doesn’t play his roles the same way, there is diversity in the way he acts, it’s obvious that he has grown from where he was years back and deserves every applaud he gets. Back to Harry, the character portrayed by Gideon Okeke, he is one Doctor that also surveys lands without being a surveyor, he goes on and offshore as he likes, and oh, I almost forgot, he is always about to enter into the theatre, because there is always an emergency. There is an emergency even at this very moment… call him, and you would find out.

The movie has a good storyline and plot with just a few casts, the writer did a very good job, truth be told. Very good dialogues which cannot be overlooked, at some point, the theatre was very quiet and I noticed the audience was listening very keenly to the dialogues, because sometimes the dialogues were mimicked. We all wanted to hear Harry’s next lines, how he lied and how he would get out of a situation. Sarah played by Ebube Nwagbo, She played the role effortlessly. Weldone! The scene in which Sarah was so confident until she saw Harry’s picture in Samira’s house… we loved (everyone in the hall). Samira, played by Zynnel Zuh, Wow! Wow! She did justice to the character without a doubt! Bravo! Harry, this guy can lie for Africa, he lies smoothly… A debonair liar. One certain fact this movie was able to portray is that Doctors are flirts and darn good players!

In Conclusion:
The setup was a bit weak, at some point, the audience had to help each other out, with their opinions as to how the vehicle moved, certain things happened, and there were various conclusions, but we had to watch the movie, it was still an interesting movie, besides #1500 was involved. *LOL* The end of the movie was quite entertaining I must say, even though there were a few loop holes to fill. It was also quite evident that resources was well managed. Good Cinematography too. In all, the producers made a good film!

D’ Filmbox had the opportunity to chat with some people as they came out of the movie theatre, after we saw the movie, and they all said it is a good movie. Some were fine with the way the film ended, but others said it should have had a better ending; was that all Harry got?? I agree with the latter… It kind of looked like a joke. The message wasn’t clear.

At some point while watching, I lost it somewhere, but there was a comeback that saved the day. Some expensive game played… expensive sh*t! And yes, I enjoyed watching the movie!
Should you go and see the movie at the cinema? Yes you should. The "Anniversary" movie is showing at the moment in Cinemas Nationwide.

In depth Analysis:
Cinematography: 3/5Directing: 3/5Story: 3/5Visual appeal: 3/5
PS: The overall rating is not an average of the sub scores above.

Plus public opinion, the film is rated a 6/10.

Thanks for reading! I draw the curtain!

Till next time on “The Review”… Keep watching good movies!
