I actually thought the movie was going to be basically about how Nigeria gained her Independence, but the writer proved me wrong. Ouch! I cannot wait to get into the review part *rubbing palms* it’s going to be a joy ride, for the car is set in motion. The movie is going to be thorn into parts for you to know it’s a great, good or… Bad movie. Worth the hype or not! Review: A girl runs through a dark forest scared of something unknown… well I guess that was how … wrote the teaser of October 1, what can I say, but I loved it! I loved the suspense right from the very start of the movie. So at the very start of the movie, a red moon in a dark night, screams are hea...

Queen of Katwe Review (2016)

Cast: David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o, Madina Nalwanga, Martin Kabanza, Taryn “Kay” Kyaze

Director: Mira Nair

Writter: William Wheeler

Synopsis: “Queen of Katwe” is the colourful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she rcieves fom her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.

“Am I ready? You belong here.” Remarkable opening dialogue from the movie.

Review:
Telling us about a young local girl’s success story. Taking into consideration that most movies of this nature tend to stray away from the part of originality. ‘Queen of Katwe’ is a movie filled with refreshing uncommon schematics and Originality.

“This is little man, his boda is broken, so he can only bump into things. Beep, beep, beep. This is the queen. She is the most powerful of all the pieces. What do they do? They kill each other. See, dead. This is your President. If your President is trapped, nowhere to go… You say, checkmate.” Another… “Coach calls it promoting, but I call it Queening. In chess, the small one can become the big one. That is why I like it.” An amazing interpretation of the chess game.

The directing and cinematography was almost impeccable! The actors interpretations of their characters were remarkable. It is a great movie to watch with the entire family, that would drive a great message to the hearts of it’s viewers. I applaud the makers of the movie for the depth in their work.

The movie is therefore rated 8/10.
